LASIK Eye Surgery Review Spotlight

Deciding to Get LASIK: Nicole’s History
LASIK can provide better vision for those with even severe eyesight impairment, though the extent of your refractive error (including nearsightedness or farsightedness) will impact your results. Nicole told us that she started wearing glasses when she was six and had a very strong prescription.
“It turns out, I had been using a prescription for many years that was too strong for me,” Nicole said. “I had been seeing another ophthalmologist before I saw Dr Gelman, and I went to him, and I said, ‘You know, my prescription is too strong’… he said that he was very impressed that Dr Gelman would have taken the time to make sure that it was perfect, because a lot of doctors just want you in and out of there.”
Waiting for Surgery
Nicole explained that, because her eyes had become used to the wrong prescription, Dr. Gelman recommended she wait for her eyes to adjust to the correct prescription before moving forward with LASIK.
“I was very patient. I waited, I wanted to get LASIK for about 15 years before I decided to get it. So I was willing to wait a couple of more months, of course, for the best results.”
After waiting for her eyes to adjust to the proper level of vision correction, Nicole was able to undergo LASIK surgery to improve her vision in both eyes.
“The motivation behind me getting LASIK was not having to rely on glasses,” Nicole told us. “I’m glad that I don’t have to depend on them.”
Nicole’s Experience With Dr. Gelman
In addition to telling us about her decision to undergo the LASIK procedure, Nicole also expressed her appreciation for the way she was treated in our office.
“Dr Gelman has been a blessing in my life,” Nicole shared with us. “She has a great heart. She’s very passionate, she’s very methodical, and she sets a high standard of excellence for herself. And I know that she cares about the work that she does.”
We talked with Nicole about the long period of time during which she was considering getting LASIK, but was not to get treatment. She told us that seeing Dr. Gelman’s billboard was what made her decide to finally take action, “I was just so delighted.”
Does Nicole Recommend Our Services?
One of the best ways to tell whether or not an eye doctor is reliable and caring is to consider whether or not patients recommend their services to friends and family members. We were honored to hear that Nicole’s father decided to get care from our office after his experience joining his daughter during her LASIK treatment.
“My father is a vet, and he’s very loyal to the VA… a lot of a lot of veterans are like that,” Nicole said, explaining that her father would generally turn to the VA to decide on his care providers rather than choosing himself.
When the VA told Nicole’s father that he needed to get cataract surgery, Nicole says he didn’t hesitate to choose Dr. Gelman for care.

What to Expect From LASIK
Before your procedure, you and your eye doctor will decide on whether to treat one eye or both, as well as the type of vision correction needed.
